The Thistle Ladies 65s competed in the Wim van Noortwijk Memorial Tournament in Barcelona 26th June to 3rd July 2022. The Ladies Section consisted of 4 Over 60s teams (Argentina, Belgium, LX Ladies & Spain) , 3 Over 65s teams (Holland, LX Ladies & ourselves), and one Over 70s team (LX Ladies). The competition was run as a round robin, then two cross over sections playing for either the 1-4 placing or the 5-8 placing. The weather every day was stunning but extremely hot but despite this we won 2 games, drew 2 games and lost 3 games. We missed out playing for the 1-4 placing by only one point. However we managed to beat both teams in our cross over section on the Saturday, one of which was Belgium an Over 60s team, which meant we ended up in 5th position. Throughout the tournament we scored 7 goals and conceded only 4.
The competition was well run, and the facilities great. Also with 2 Thistle men’s teams there it was great to support them, and for them to support us. There was a huge number of different countries competing, and not just from Europe, which all added to the tremendous atmosphere which existed throughout the tournament.
