TILBURG 65s TAKE BRONZE
Playing in the mixed 65s/70s league with quasi-national teams from Germany and Holland Thistles showed the progress made in recent years. In the league format of six half matches Friday afternoon and Saturday we had two wins four draws and never conceded once. It’s the quietest I’ve ever had Phil in goal - though he still managed to shout at me a few times, regardless. Meanwhile our mids/fwds were rampant up front scoring ten. In the final league game vs LX it was hot, humid and we were all pretty knacked and a nil-nil draw was an achievement for both teams. This put us as fourth and set for the medal play-offs. The Sunday morning semi was a replay of LX; sadly we went backwards and they went forwards and we lost 0-3, still Phil found his voice again which was a small consolation. So Germany in the bronze playoff and we invoked the spirit of Mike McInally and sang 500 miles. A 1-0 win that could have been many more and an almost happy Phil. Great event and I’m still buzzing.
