Open Day Sunday 3rd Dec – update 23/11

With Mike not well we’re pulling this together for him.

Date:  Sunday 3rd December.

Time:  On the pitch ready to play from 1pm until 4pm

Location:  Both pitches at MES Sports Centre (The Mary Erskine School), Craigleith Rise, Edinburgh EH4 3NT (entrance is off Ravelston Dykes Road, west of traffic lights)

Bring:  White top and Dark Blue top able to change at the side of the pitch.  The rest of the kit can be as eclectic as the mix of players.

Changing rooms are available but I am not aware of any catering or shops nearby.

We have an mix of younger and older, ladies and men and it is so helpful to have everyone register in advance although if you turn up on the day we shall cope.  Guests of a suitable age are  welcome and can be added to the register in advance.

BAD WEATHER.  If by chance the event had to be cancelled a notice will be posted on the home page of the website and copied to WhatsApp groups where possible.

PLAYER ORGANISATION

The idea is to split into various “half squads” from a similar age group and combine two different half squads to make a team for one match with a different combination for each subsequent match.  Worked example:

  1. Pitch One: M65 sparrows half squad plus W70 robins half squad will play M60 sparrows plus W70 sparrows.
  2. Pitch Two: M60 robins plus M70 sparrows will play M65 robins plus M70 robins

If a squad is short of numbers or need a substitute they can borrow players (no ringers, though!).  Hopefully we’ll also have enough ladies so that a W vs W match can occur.

Goalkeepers.  Have their own mini-league for bragging rights – three points if the team you are playing with wins, one point for a draw.

GAME ORGANISATION

Social event so no scores are logged.  Twenty minutes one way.

Normal rules of hockey to be applied with a light touch.  All Penalty Corner first attempt at goal (hit or flick) must intend to hit the back boards and in mixed matches only ladies can strike the first attempt on goal.

GKs select their end then coin toss for the two teams and the winner can chose their end including that GK or to start with the ball.

Time-Out.  One per team per match for one minute when ball is off the pitch and is to be in your possession to reorganise your team.

At the end of the game each side must select/appoint an umpire to stay on that pitch for the next match.
